New Show Alert! Becoming Marlene Dietrich @ Birdland Theater on April 13th!

Hello friends,

Wow thank you for all the love received in response to last month’s post! I appreciate you coming to my fun gig outings at the Back Room and Foxtail, and for such lovely birthday messages! What a great few weeks it’s been!

I’m so happy to have fully converged into my birth month, and this year my birthday present to myself has been to write a brand new cabaret show! You’ve read that right: I have decided to create a new show, which I will perform for the very first time at the Birdland Theater on April 13th, 2023. I hope to see you there, and to celebrate the legacy and life of the one and only « God’s gift to men and women »; the spectacular Marlene Dietrich! Get your tickets HERE while they’re hot!

Accompanied by my stellar and long-tenured trio (Hyuna Park on piano & Elias Bailey on upright bass), I can’t wait to render Dietrich’s most iconic songs, convey some of the most dramatic moments of her life and legacy, all while unveiling some of the diva’s mysteries. The performance will last 75 minutes.

Personally, I’m ecstatic to approach this material which speaks to me in ways that combine both my theatrical background and my inclination towards social justice. After all, Dietrich was a pioneer in asserting a woman’s right to controlling her image, and defying social conventions of the 1930’s. Perhaps most fascinating was her courage to demand the respect that women were denied in this time, while being recognized for denouncing fascism and embodying a uniquely enigmatic sex appeal.

After spending a great deal of time studying and paying tribute to Edith Piaf, I’m most excited that this new show will also combine elements of Piaf’s and Dietrich’s time period, and explore the rumored scandalous relationship between the two. Always one for the drama, there was an over abundance of it in both Piaf’s and Dietrich’s lives, and I just can’t wait to share it with you!

So please consider offering me the best birthday present ever, which would be your presence! Please get tickets for a “best of cabaret in NYC” evening with yours truly on April 13th, 2023, and plan on celebrating an icon referred to as « Queen of the World » by the Broadway community: the one and only Marlene Dietrich. You won’t regret it ;)

A bientôt Xx
